Turkey hopes Bulgaria will soon complete its transition to democracy like other European countries had done, Turkey’s Ambassador in Sofia said on Monday.
In a congratulatory address to Bulgaria and its people marking the 25th anniversary of the start of the country’s transition to market economy and multi-party political system Ambassador Suleyman Gokce highlighted the contribution of ethnic Turks in Bulgaria for the development of democracy and unification of the nation since 1989 along the Bulgarian model of inter-ethnic relations, which the country should be proud of.
In a letter to Novinite CEO Maxim Behar accompanying the address Turkey’s Ambassador is extending his congratulations on the occasion of the “anniversary of the historic events that unfolded on 10 November 1989” in Bulgaria.
Ambassador Gokce also said in his address that Turkey is willing to develop bilateral relations with neighbouring Bulgaria in the context of universal contemporary values.
Bulgaria has covered a “huge distance” over the past 25 years in terms of democracy, human rights and universal values, Turkey’s Ambassador said, expressing his country’s wish to see Bulgaria setting an example for other countries in being а “democratic and prosperous society” developing along the lines of EU and NATO values.
Congratulating Bulgaria’s statesmen, civil society, democratic political parties, religious communities and representatives of business, media and outstanding public figures for their “resolute and selfless work” over the 25 years of transition, Turkey’s ambassador also expressed his country’s “wishes for the wellbeing and success of our compatriots, who are playing a key role in Turkey-Bulgaria relationship,” and to Turkish citizens who have their roots in Bulgaria.
