Bulgaria’s Reformist Bloc said on Tuesday it has supported the option of a coalition government with GERB leader Boyko Borisov as prime minister.
The Reformist Bloc (RB) has never denied the right of the biggest political force in Parliament to nominate a Prime Minister designate, Radan Kanev, co-chairman of right-wing RB, told reporters after talks with GERB on forming a government.
The two political forces share the opinion that Borisov heading a coalition cabinet is the best option in view of the ultimate goal of securing a stable majority in Parliament, Kanev added.
He declined to name other potential members of the future coalition cabinet but said that RB has nominated one deputy prime minister without portfolio and six ministers. He added he would not be a minister in the future cabinet.
Kanev didn’t elaborate but Rumyana Bachvarova from GERB said that the future coalition government would have three deputy prime ministers and 18 ministers. She also said she would take a ministerial post but declined to say whether she would serve as a deputy prime minister.
The names of future cabinet members are expected to be announced on Wednesday following their endorsement by the parliamentary groups of GERB and RB later on Tuesday.
Bachvarova added that two of the deputy prime ministers had been nominated by GERB, while the nomination of the third one had been proposed by RB.
She also said a ministerial post will be awarded to left-wing ABV party but mentioned no names. According to sources from GERB, the minister from ABV will be former foreign minister Ivaylo Kalfin.
Kalfin, according to Dnevnik.bg, quoting RB sources, would become social minister.
Nova News, the news site of the Nova TV national channel, however, claims that Kalfin will become economy minister. Another nominee for the position is RB's Martin Dimitrov.
According to Bulgarian-language media reports, the RB has nominated five people for ministerial posts.
Meglena Kuneva was nominated for deputy prime minister, responsible for European integration to oversee and co-operate with Daniel Mitov who would keep his current post as foreign minister.
Todor Tanev was nominated for education minister, Rumen Hristov – for minister of agriculture, General Atanas Atanasov – interior minister and Nikolai Nenchev – defence minister.
Other media, such as Mediapool.bg, claim that Bozhidar Lukarski of the RB would head the economy ministry, after its division from energy and tourism. Delyan Dobrev, who was minister of economy, energy and tourism in the Borisov government, would take the position of minister of energy and tourism.
According to the website, Petar Moskov is nominated for health minister.
Quoting sources, familiar with the negotiations, Mediapool claims Atanas Atanasov's nomination for interior minister was rejected by Borisov who would nominate Veselin Vuchkov, former deputy interior minister.
Atanasov would head the parliamentary committee for internal security, instead.
Borisov also rejected the nomination of Rumen Hristov for agriculture minister and his position would be taken by GERB's Desislava Taneva.
According to the report, Lilyana Pavlova will assume her old position as regional development minister. Ivaylo Moskovski would also go back to his old job as minister of transport.
Sculptor Vezhdi Rashidov would be minister of culture once again.
