Bulgaria will not give in to someone else's suggestions when setting up its new government said in Brussels Bulgaria's President Rosen Plevneliev, reports the Club Z website.

Plevneliev's comments came in response to a reporter's question referring to the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) party president Guy Verhofstadt who declared that the worst possible outcome of the ongoing coalition talks in Bulgaria would be a cabinet with the participation of nationalist formations like the Patriotic Front and the Ataka party.

Plevneliev pointed out that the setup of Bulgaria's government will not be “because someone from Brussels wished or demanded it, but because currently Bulgaria is walking the path seeking the solutions to its problems and it goes through a pro-European and pro-democratic coalition government with a clear action plan.”

“For me it is most important that the Bulgarian politicians comply with the vote of the Bulgarian citizens and the national interest,” said Plevneliev shortly before the start of the Heads of States meeting at the EU Council headquarters in Brussels.

In his statement Plevneliev commended the manner in which the coalition negotiations are conducted and said he hoped they will be succesful.

“Whether it will be a grand coalition, a wide coalition, a centre-right coalition is something that is up to the parties to decide, but it is most important that it is based on clear principles. They will be clearly pro-European, because this is what the people voted for and what the economy and the business require.”
