Bulgaria`s ministry of Defense has started talks with the European EADS consortium for the establishment of a joint venture with the Terem military works. The Plovdiv-based facility could be used for the repair and upgrade to NATO standards of up to 40 fighter aircraft per year.

The Bulgarian Post Bank launched a new service, allowing private persons and companies to obtain loans for the purchase of motor vehicles. The initial instalment is set at 20%, and the loans have a maturity of up to 4 years at 11% annual interest.

Unipharm expects its sales to top BGN 10 million in 2001. The pharmaceutical products of the company are almost exclusively to export. In 2000 the company`s sales stood at BGN 8.6 million. In August last year Unipharm merged with Sopharma to form the largest pharmaceutical group in Bulgaria.

Activists of the World Macedonian Congress have blocked Bulgarian trucks for more than two weeks close to the Blatse cross-border point at the border between Macedonia and Kosovo. The Bulgarian embassy in Skopje has been notified and is expected to urge the Macedonian authorities to assist in order to have the problem resolved.
