Bulgaria’s caretaker government is to allocate Wednesday an additional sum of BGN 1 M to the National Intelligence Service.

The funding, which is to be provided through state budget savings, will be used for urgent current expenditures for activities directly related to the implementation of its core functions and tasks by end-2014, according to the government’s press office.

The 2014 budget of the National Intelligence Service of BGN 17 474 000 was downsized after the adoption of the budget update of the National Health Insurance Fund in August.

During its Wednesday sitting, the caretaker government is also to approve changes to the Defense Ministry budget, with a total of BGN 1.7 M of the funding earmarked for the policy on defense capabilities to be redirected to the "G. S. Rakovski" National Defence Academy (nearly BGN 600 000), the “Vasil Levski” National Military University (nearly BGN 850 000) and the N.Y. Vaptsarov Naval Academy (BGN 300 000).
