The pilots of Germany's biggest airline, Lufthansa, have called off a strike at Frankfurt airport scheduled for Tuesday.

The pilots had planned to walk out on long-haul flights leaving from Frankfurt Airport, according to reports of DPA.

Tuesday's strike was expected to be the fourth one in three weeks, with pilots opposing an early retirement scheme proposed by the airline.

However, the pilots' union Vereinigung Cockpit said late Monday it had received a new offer from the airline and was preparing for a new round of talks.

The German flag-carrier announced earlier that the strike would not lead to flight cancellations, adding that the flights would either be postponed or operated by volunteer pilots.

Pilots are fighting to keep the early retirement option, which allows them to retire with 60% of their salary at age of 55, but Lufthansa wants to abolish it and increase the retirement age.
