Spring Allergies Attack us After the Flu
After flu and autumn-winter viral infections there is a series of allergies, which are activated among people in spring.
Every third Bulgarian suffers from some kind of allergy, most often allergic rhinitis, reports radio Darik.
From hay fever suffer between 20 and 25% of the population in the country.
“If today around 35% of the population suffers from some kind of allergies, we expect that in the next 20 years the percentage will rise to 50%,” said associate professor Maria Staevska, allergy expert. “Hay fever is often underestimated, but it must be treated because it lowers the quality of life and often leads to asthma. In around 40% of the cases, the pollen rhinitis escalates to asthma.”
According to her, the main reason for the onslaught of allergies was the hygiene – modern society is a lot cleaner and humans have lost contact with microbes. In the most developed countries around 50% of the population already suffers from some kind of allergy.
