Bulgaria: DPS Nominates Elena Yoncheva for MEP
The Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) in Blagoevgrad has nominated Elena Yoncheva as a candidate for the European Parliament, sparking intense debate and speculation
Bulgaria's Parliament has postponed putting the vetoed Interior Ministry Bill to the votes, Wednesday.
The suggestion was made by Yanaki Stoilov, the Deputy Chair of socialists' group in Parliament and was approved by 108 MPs, 23 were against it and 25 abstained.
Bulgarian MPs were going to discuss on Wednesday the Ministry of Interior Bill which was adopted in end-May, and was vetoed by President Rosen Plevneliev.
After the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) and the Ataka party rejected the veto, the bill will be put up for discussion again, Nova Tv reports.
One of the main reasons behind the veto was the decision introducing changes to the present system, under which the President was in charge of the appointment of the Chief Secretary, the ministry's top-ranking cadre, who according to the bill will be appointed by the Council of Ministers upon a proposal by the Interior Minister.
