Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski has said he is ready to stand down on Tuesday next week, a Bulgarian private channel reports, citing sources.

According to bTV, he will deliver his resignation after attending a meeting of the Consultative Council for National Security called by President Rosen Plevneliev at which politicians are to set a date for early elections.

The sources claim that a scenario in which he quits July is also on the table, as this would put off elections at least until September.

Bulgarian politicians are so far failing to agree on a suitable time for a snap vote, with the ruling Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP)'s leader Sergey Stanishev calling for elections as early as July and others suggesting they take place in early autumn.

Trud, a Bulgarian daily, wrote Thursday that officials from all major parties in Parliament, including the BSP, coalition partners from Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) and opposition GERB, are more inclined to holding a vote in end-September.
