Hijacking Attempt of Belarusian Passenger Plane Prevented
The Belarusian security service has prevented an attempt to hijack a plane flying in to the capital Minsk from Georgia, Tuesday.
The Belarusian State Security Committee has arrested a Georgian national after he has attempted to hijack a passenger plane that was flying from Kutaisi, Georgia, to the Belarusian capital, Minsk, on June 10, Interfax informs.
The man has threatened to trigger a bomb on the plane unless the pilots agreed to divert it to an unspecified European destination, according to international media reports.
The State Security Committee said the man communicated his demands in a note, but the pilots managed to land the plane in Minsk as scheduled and to detain the hijacker following an hour-long negotiation.
Neither the passengers nor the crew on the flight, which came from the Georgian city of Kutaisi, were hurt.
