BSP Leader Stanishev Demands Government Resignation, July Elections
Sergey Stanishev, leader of the senior partner in the ruling coalition, the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), demanded the resignation of the government of Plamen Oresharski.
"We cannot have the responsibility for the existence and actions of this government solely by ourselves," said Stanishev in a televised press conference following the extraordinary session of the BSP leadership on Tuesday.
He added that it was fair that the Oresharski government resigns after the voting of the fifth no-confidence vote, which is expected to take place in Parliament later this week.
According to Stanishev, early elections in the end of July were feasible and necessary for a new government, legitimized by the people, to take control and ensure that the political crisis does not linger on.
The BSP leader outlined that at times like these, the different parties must unite, regardless of their differences.
Stanishev was also critical of his party members, without specifying particular names. What he referred to were the recurrent calls for his resignation following the weak European election results, which would "not solve the main problems in BSP". According to the former Prime Minister, too many people in the party are more concerned about personal gains, rather than the greater good.
"BSP has never been afraid of elections, and unlike some others, holding on to power is not our fixed objective", Stanishev added, saying that Bulgarians had forgotten too quickly the times of Boyko Borisov and GERB, when businesses were crushed and media freedom was virtually eliminated.

I am little bit confused what is going on in Bulgaria today? First time Sergei Stanishev act like a wise practical politician who connect the politics with patriotism. This is what most of the politicians 97% do, they care for their personal not even party gain, and the country is the camouflage. His comment reference the last government, perhaps is very true. This is the time for the People to make up their mind and decide-what kind of government they want and can trust. It is not and easy question base on the political history to pick a party that doesn't exist. The other important point is, there are to many country who have influence among politicians, and they all have only one interest-how to make Bulgaria more dependent, basically to exploit the natural resources for their own gain, exhaust the country as a whole and bankrupted the country. We all know what happened in Iceland, and lets hope there are wise politicians who have what it takes to rescue the country before it is to late ,and only that will reduce the migration of the young people. There is way out!
Stanishev this is stupid. Serve your term, get South Stream built, develop harmonious relationships with Russia and the West.
Elections are risky and right now we dont need GERB back in fucking things up.
Stanishev I think you were born in South East Ukraine, well fight hard like the South Eastern Ukranians are doing its the culture you come from.
Today is a tragedy - soon Bulgaria will have a government that is not in bed with Putin & the Russians, a government that is not breaking EU rules on South Stream, a government that does not succeed in having desparately needed EU funding frozen because of corruption, a government that does not have its EU partnership agreement torn up by Brussels because of its amateurish content completely lacking in strategy and direction. Let us just hope that Communist Part Secretary Stanishev continues to lead the BSP so we can be assured they will become a footnote in history as Bulgaria plots a path that is firmly in Europe, and away from those savages in the Kremlin.
