According to exit polls, confectionery tycoon Petro Poroshenko wins 55% of the votes in Ukraine’s presidential elections.

The elections were marked with low turnout in the eastern part of the country, where polling stations were closed in many places by the pro-Russian separatists.

Former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko comes far behind in second place with 12.8%.

If the results are confirmed and Poroshenko has over 50% of the votes, he will become the new president without a runoff.

Thunderstorm, I didn't think it was possible for you to be that dumb.

I never said I found Russia insignificant. I want it to be a normal country, this the one which shares common values with democratic world. I dislike Putin because his policy will cost us Europeans a lot of money to be spent for military to protect against his appetite on new territories. The annexation of Crimea was a big mistake, Putin knows it and tries to sweep it under the rug by promoting cooperation with China. But for China Russia is not much more significant than, say, Lithuania for Russia.

@Yane. Don't waste your breath - Poroshenko will not last long. Ukrainians don't want a President they want a magician! Mind you, it is quite possible that Bulgarians are the same...

@Thunderstorm. If you are so sure of Russia's insignificance why are you so spiteful, wasting your time writing the comment? Obviously, something Russia did that stuck in your throat!

Russian/soviet TV has shown a web site with right-wing Dmytro Jarosh as a winner. of Ukrainian comment about it, so stupid it is. How disoriented or naive must the Russian people be to support such authorities, with a president presenting his fat, depilated naked chest while riding a black horse (phew..) and openly confirming that what he was previously saying about Crimea "green people" was a lie .. China will swallow this 140 millions Russia (with 50% muslims and 25 % alcoholics) in no longer than 50 years but it seems like they really deserve such fate. Feeding on petrodollars and doing nothing is a huge step to loose power.

Another russian troll. Beware.

What a fraud! The man is an OLIGARCH! The coup-government is shooting at eastern Ukraine with tanks, artillery n helicopters...the pro-Russian candidate was beaten within an inch of his life by the right sector fascist mobs...he had to give up his candidacy in protest, so only western Ukrainian candidates could participate!

Remember those fascists after Maidan surrounded the parliament building preventing and beating people from Yanukovich's party. That's "democracy" in Ukraine, half the population's democratic choice Yanukovich was chased out by western Ukrainian fascist coup mobs, and now they were prevented from even having a candidate! Ofc we will soon see, if not already, the US n EU say it was a problem-free election, fair and 100% up to standards etc.

You can't trample half the population and think this scam of an 'election' will be tolerated, how can people even vote when they are dodging bullets? And they don't even have a candidate of their own! I'm sorry, but Ukraine will spiral further down into civil war, simply because of western arrogance that everything must go their imperialist way, not willing to compromise or event acknowledge eastern and southern Ukraine. All they talk about is Putin this, Putin that, as if those people don't exist!

I'm sure that spineless weasel Plevniev will speak the party-line of obedience to the west like the puppet he is!
