Central Election Commission Prepared for 2-in-1 Elections in Bulgaria
As Bulgaria gears up for early parliamentary elections (6th in the last 3 years), the Central Election Commission (CEC) has announced its readiness for a unique scenario
Voter turnout in the European Parliament elections stood at 17.53% by 13.30 pm on Sunday, according to Alexander Andreev, Spokesperson for the Central Electoral Commission.
This means that 1 114 620 people cast their ballots out of a total of 6 357 824 eligible voters, according to the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR).
By 10 am, voter turnout stood at 7.62%, equal to the rate at the previous European Parliament elections in 2009.
The most active voters were in the Black Sea city of Burgas, where turnout reached 36.63% by 13.30 pm.
The most passive voters were in Ruse, where voter turnout stood at 13.38% by 13.30 pm.
Although no precise information is available for Sofia yet, voter turnout is believed to amount to 15-17% and is expected to reach 18-19%.
Data is still unavailable for the districts of Dobrich, Pernik and Shumen. Taking into account rough estimates of the voter turnout for the three districts, the voter turnout in the 2009 EP elections is believed to have been reached, at 19.28%.
