A total of five parties will make it into the European Parliament, with center-right opposition GERB to be first in the vote, a survey by polling agency Alpha Research argues.
The survey exploring electoral attitudes, made upon an order by Dnevnik.bg, shows that GERB has a clear lead on the ruling Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) in the contest for Bulgaria's 17 MEP seats.
Results predict 27.3% (and 6 MEPs) for the opposition, compared to 23.6% (and 5 MEPs) for the BSP.
The Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) could count on 13.4% (three seats), whereas new parties like Bulgaria without Censorship (10.5%) and the Reformist Bloc (5.9%) are to send, respectively, 2 and 1 representatives into the European Parliament.
Another newly-established player on the political scene, President (2001-2011) Georgi Parvanov's Alternative for Bulgarian Revival (ABV), is not expected to pass the 5.88% threshold and enter the European Parliament.
The contrary is not out of the question for ABV, however, as it can count on 5.3%.
The two nationalist parties, Ataka and the National Front for the Salvation of Bulgaria (NFSB), will not make it into the EP, according to the poll.
If the projected results match reality, the European Popular Party (EPP) can expect seven Bulgarian MEPs (six from GERB and one from the Reformist Bloc). The Party of European Socialists (PES) will be second in its "Bulgarian" quota, while the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats in Europe will receive 3 MEPs from the country.
Alpha Research's data shows that a month of election campaigning has increased the projected turnout by 4 to 5 percent.
Estimates of the agency suggest it would be at about 38% (2.5 to 2.7 million voters), near the European average. This would be up from the 2 million who cast a ballot at Bulgaria's first European elections in 2007.
Unlike the survey of Alpha Research, that of Gallup International (results of which were announced earlier) argues Sunday's vote will be too close to call and also that the Reformist Bloc will not manage to enter the EP.
