Georgia to Sign EU Association Agreement on June 27

Georgia will sign a key association agreement with the EU on June 27, according to European Council President Herman Van Rompuy.
He announced the step after talks with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili in Tbilisi.
"By choosing this path, Georgia is signaling its commitment to strong democratic institutions, respect for the rights of its citizens, and firmly upholding the rule of law," the European Council President said, as cited by Radio Free Europe.
"Georgia is a free, democratic country that should make its own choices. No external pressure must change this," Herman Van Rompuy added.
Georgia's association agreement with the EU, including a deep and comprehensive free trade area treaty, was initialed in Vilnius on November 28 during the Eastern Partnership summit.
One day ago, Van Rompuy made clear that Moldova would sign an association agreement in Brussels on June 27.
