Latvian Mayor Injured in Russian Attack
Egils Helmanis, the mayor of Ogre, a Latvian town located just over 30 kilometers from Riga, has sustained injuries during a Russian attack in Ukraine
Ukraine's armed forces are on full combat alert according to the country's interim President Oleksandr Turchynov.
"I am once again addressing the real danger of the start of a continental war against Ukraine by the Russian Federation. Our armed forces have been put on full combat alert", Turchynov told the heads of regional administrations on Wednesday, cited by Interfax.
The interim president admitted that the situation in Dontesk and Luhansk regions remains unstable and the central government has not been able to regain control there.
"I want to say frankly that law enforcement agencies are not able to take control over the situation in Donetsk and Luhansk regions", he added.
Turchynov believes that a complete change of the police and security services staff is necessary in eastern Ukraine.
