The expected rainfalls in Bulgaria do not pose a risk for flooding of dams, the Agriculture Minister Dimitar Grekov assured.

"The dams managed by the "Irrigation Systems" company are under control", Grekov said.

The comment came after a municipal dam in the northwestern village of Gyurgich flooded on Wednesday night, destroying bridges and flooding households. Luckily, nobody was injured.

According to the mayor of the municipality, the dam was recently inspected and was in good condition.

Minister Grekov outlined that many of the dams in Bulgaria would actually benefit from more rain, as the water levels are below the minimum norms.
