Most skimmer attackers in 2013 were from Bulgaria and are getting more technologically advanced, shows a report of Verizon, quoted by Bloomberg. 

Verizon notes that criminals engaged in skimming - stealing people's payment card information by tampering with ATM PIN pads and gas station credit-card readers - are now exploiting wireless technology to pull off their schemes more easily. 

Whereas previously the skimmers had to visit the devices first to install their equipment, then to download the stolen data and to uninstall the skimmer, now they are using the internet to exchange information and send the data across the world. 

The company studied 130 card data thefts in 95 countries from last year, mostly at ATMs and gas pumps. 

Bulgaria is followed by Armenia, Romania, Brazil and the United States.

Recently in Canada, the US and Bulgaria were arrested a number of Bulgarian citizens, involved in two separate card skimming schemes.
