Romanian Senate Agrees on EUR 100 M Aid to Moldova

Romania's Senate voted Tuesday to approve a draft law providing EUR 100 M of financial aid to the Republic of Moldova.
The substantiation note attached to the bill says the non-refundable package is aimed at contributing "to the promotion of the process reform in the Republic of Moldova and reduce the economic and social disparities," the Romanian agency Agerpres reports.
Since the beginning of the Crimean standoff between Russia and Ukraine, Romania has stepped up diplomatic effort to boost positive developments of Moldova, often described as the EU's poorest country.
It is now one of the staunchest supporters of Moldova's signing of an Association Agreement with the EU which is due in June this year.
