Bulgarians in Germany who are unable to find a job amount to 10 000, according to data revealing migration trends of EU citizens.

The share of unemployed Europeans in the country has gone up 5.3% over the past year, German website Local.de has reported.

EU citizens looking for a job thus account for 15.4% of the total share of immigrants out of work. Polish citizens are the most numerous job seekers in Germany (36 000), followed by Italians (35 000) and Greeks (19 700).

Romanians ranking as unemployed in the top European economy are 11 000, and together with Bulgarians they constitute roughly 4% of all immigrants out of work.

Fears arose in Germany earlier this year after labor restrictions for the two countries were removed on January 1 under European agreements.

Many experts (and the media as well) suggested that thousands of Bulgarians and Romanians would flock to both the UK and Germany, seeking a way out of the misery in their homelands.

In March Germany announced it was preparing a report envisaging tougher measures against "social benefit tourism" from across the EU and proposing a 3-month limit for the stay for those migrants who have not yet found a job.

Such measures could put into jeopardy Germany's respect of European rules for freedom of movement and work within the bloc.
