Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says his country and the West are getting closer in their positions on the Ukrainian crisis.

"We (Russia and the West) are getting closer in our positions", Lavrov told state media on Saturday. The statement comes a day after a phone call between President Vladimir Putin and US President Barack Obama to discuss a diplomatic resolution to the Ukraine crisis.

"We have absolutely no intention and no interests in crossing the Ukrainian border", the Russian Foreign Minister added.

Nonetheless, Lavrov used the opportunity to criticize the United States for employing double standards.

"Construction of bases like American ones is out of the question. Any agreements like those concluded by Americans to ensure immunity for their servicemen from crimes in the country of their presence are also out of the question."
