Krasimir Stefanov, an MP from the opposition center-right GERB party has declared his intent to leave the party's parliamentary group.
Stefanov, who was head of Bulgaria's National Revenue Agency in 2011, has announced that he will remain an independent MP.
He did not extensively comment on the reasons for his move, but was quoted by PIK news agency as saying that he was strongly against taking decisions against his own will and being "just a costly button-presser at the parliamentary bench".
Tsetska Tsacheva, who is a member of the center-right party, expressed her amazement at the resignation, assuring GERB knew about Stefanov's decision as much as the journalists did.
Krasimir Stefanov is the third MP to leave the ranks of GERB without quitting the Parliament.
The news comes short after another key official of GERB, Vladislav Goranov, surprisingly resigned from his MP post on Friday. Goranov, who was also Deputy Finance Minister at the time of GERB's rule, explained his decision with "personal reasons" and with his willingness to keep his professional profile as an expert.
