Bulgaria's Interior Ministry is launching a nationwide campaign against household crime on Monday.
Svetoslav Lazarov, Chief Secretary of the Interior, informed Sunday that enhanced police presence and constant patrol would be provided for small and remote localities where frequency of thefts of personal property had increased.
Lazarov made clear that the operation would be conducted with the support of officers of the Specialized Police Forces Directorate of the National Police Chief Directorate and from the district police directorates across the country.
On February 6, Lazarov announced that the Interior Ministry would concentrate its efforts on 15 high-risk districts plagued by organized crime rings specializing in burglaries.
He cited Vidin, Vratsa, Montana, Pleven and Sofia district as crime hotspots, adding that the respective police departments would receive extra staff and additional quantities of fuel.
The start of the nationwide operation targeting household crime coincides with the start of debates on the no-confidence motion submitted by center-right party GERB against the government over the failed domestic security policy.
