Bulgaria Can Be Very Competitive in Hi-Tech Manufacturing– President

Bulgaria can be very competitive in the sphere of specialized hi-tech output such as the production of optic products and systems, according to President Rosen Plevneliev.
Plevneliev visited the central Bulgarian town of Panagyurishte on Wednesday to attend the opening ceremony of a new production unit of Optix AD, a joint stock company set up in 1998 specializing in the design and manufacturing of optical, opto-mechanical and opto-electronic assemblies and devices for military as well as civil use.
Plevneliev, as cited by the President's press office, claimed that Bulgaria boasted leading companies in a number of spheres, from electronics to agriculture.
"It is important, however, that Bulgaria work to enhance dialogue, allocate resources appropriately and give young people an opportunity to work in the real sector through the introduction of the dual education system," Plevneliev stated.
He yet again called for strategic work aimed at turning Bulgaria into an innovation and development hub, at providing knowledgeable and skilled human resources for the business sector, at ensuring a better connection between science, research centers, innovations and businesses.
"This is how jobs are created – by developing industries which bring added value. They are the solution to a large part of the country's problems, including the demographic problem," Bulgaria's head of state emphasized.
He cited Optix AD as an example of the successful cooperation between universities, the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the business sector.
Plevneliev declared that the company matched international standards and created development prospects for the employees and their families and the whole town.
On Wednesday, Optix AD opened it fourth production unit. The ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Panagyurishte, the District Governor of Pazardzhik, the Chair of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and defense industry representatives.
