Boyko Borisov, former Bulgarian Prime Minister and leader of center-right party GERB, has given his countenance to the latest students' anti-government protests.

"I support students in their protests against the shameful government of the Triple coalition of BSP (Bulgarian Socialist Party), DPS (the liberal predominantly ethnic Turkish party Movement for Rights and Freedoms) and (ultranationalist party) Ataka," Borisov said on his Facebook page Monday.

"At the same time, I do not suppose that anyone would consider ordering the police to use force against peacefully protesting young people. However, I am not sure that the occupation of a university will result in the resignation of the government."

"GERB still demands the immediate resignation of the Oresharski cabinet and the dissolution of Parliament. We call for common opposition measures, such as a national protest outside the Parliament," former PM Borisov continued.

"Universities are not a place for doing politics, I call on students to nominate their representatives and we will be willing to meet them at GERB's central office tomorrow, to hear them out and to discuss their political demands," Borisov wrote on Facebook.

Friday night students and citizens launched another occupation of the main building of Sofia University calling for the resignation of Socialist-endorsed government of Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski, the dissolution of Parliament and new elections.

Sofia University President, prof. Ivan Ilchev was authorized to take legal action to dissolve the ongoing occupation of the university's main building. On Sunday he referred the case to the prosecution, due to the illegal occupation of public state property.

Also on Sunday the Sofia University student union came out with a position denouncing the occupation, said it is not representative of the views of the school's students.

Meanwhile, tensions are escalating as Sofia University students and lecturers are still unable to enter the occupied main University building.

Opposing crowds have gathered on the street near the chained back entrance of the building. There is shouting, pushing and shoving, the public radio BNR reported.

Police are trying to separate the two groups.
