Boyko Borisov, former Bulgarian Prime Minister and leader of center-right party GERB, has mocked the election talk of right-wing formation The Reformist Bloc.
"I learned that they were out to win the elections on their own and could possibly seek our support. I will refrain from commenting until they win the elections and seek our support. They had 3% of support, now they have as many as 7%," Borisov said in a Friday interview for the morning broadcast of private TV station bTV.
He made clear that he was closely following the public appearances of the leaders of the Reformist Bloc and that he had regular phone conversations with them, adding that it was part of his job as a politician to maintain dialogue with the other political formations.
Borisov went on to say, however, that the current members of the Reformist Bloc had sold oil refinery Neftochim and a number of other enterprises during their terms in office, stressing that center-right party GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria) was doing just the opposite.
Asked to comment on former President Georgi Parvanov and his left-wing movement ABV, Borisov described him as a "dangerous player" and that he had to be taken seriously.
Asked about his meeting with socialist MP Rumen Petkov on the future of the Belene nuclear power plant, Borisov reminded that the GERB government had terminated the project because the state had lacked the money to implement it.
"If a private investor interested in buying the project shows up, I would give it a thought. However, there have been no such signals so far," he stated.
Borisov, as cited by Darik radio, claimed that the Belene NPP project was a corrupt deal and expressed hopes that the prosecuting authority would launch an investigation into the matter.
He explained that he had been contacted by investors interested in the N-plant project but he had told them to address the government because he was not the man in charge of the scheme.
Borisov reiterated that the GERB government and the Parliament had decided to terminate the Belene NPP project because it had been too expensive for Bulgaria to afford.
"The only valuable aspect of the Belene NPP project is that it has been issued a license which can be sold," the leader of GERB declared.
