The United States and European Union have condemned the violence in Kiev, which left 3 people dead in the early hours of Wednesday.

According to a medical worker at the scene, two protesters died after being shot and a third fell from a building column, Euronews revealed.

The EU's foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said that the reported deaths of several protesters is a "source of extreme worry".

Meanwhile, the US embassy in Kiev has revoked the visas of several Ukrainians who are believed to be linked to the violence against protesters in November and December.

In a statement on Wednesday morning, the embassy announced it was also considering further action against those responsible for the current violence.

The Ukrainian Prime Minister has accused anti-government protesters of bringing "terrorists" on to the streets and warned that all "criminal actions" would be punished. He denied allegations that the police had used guns to repel demonstrators.

The new wave of violent protests in Kiev began on Sunday, after the Ukrainian government voted last week a set of controversial measures, including hefty fines and jail sentences for anti-government protesters.

The West has called the new laws "undemocratic" and dangerous for the freedom of Ukrainian citizens.
