A number of shopping centers and retail stores in Bulgaria are threatened with closure over illegal superstructures, extensions, restructuring, etc.

According to reports of the Investment Planning Ministry, a recent spate of inspections at a total of 421 sites uncovered 26 breaches of the Spatial Development Act and 51 violations of sanitation and hygiene norms and fire safety rules.
The inspections of the Bulgaria's National Construction Control Directorate (DNSK) was launched in end-November after the fatal incident in Riga where the roof of a supermarket collapsed, killing 54. Latvia's Prime Minister resigned after the tragedy.
Bulgaria's Investment Planning Minister Ivan Danov, as cited by dnevnik.bg, noted that the municipal authorities had to order the owners of the faulty building to carry out the necessary repair works by specific deadlines.
