"Hanukkah teaches us how to seek hope instead of despair even in the darkest and most hopeless moments. The miracle of Hanukkah reminds us of age-old Bulgarian virtues of tolerance, hospitability and humaneness. An example of that is the miracle of the rescue of all Bulgarian Jews 70 years ago, when Bulgarian civil society protected its Jewish citizens and saved them from the gas chambers of the Nazis.  Today we remember this valuable lesson that each one of us is capable of distinguishing good from evil - that united by the common humane cause together we can inscribe a shining page even in the darkest moments of human history."
