Bulgaria's Maleeva WTA Ranking Unchanged after Seat Open Defeat

Sports | October 29, 2002, Tuesday // 00:00

Bulgaria's best tennis player Magdalena Maleeva kept its 15th position in WTA ranking with a total of 1591 points. The ranking was not changed after her defeat from top-seeded Kim Clijsters of Belgium (6-1, 6-2) in Sunday's final of the USD 225,000 Seat Open WTA tournament. Defending champion Clijsters made a move early on, with three breaks in the first set, and the world's No. 5 had little trouble keeping the Bulgarian, ranked 10 places below her, at bay in the second. The final was finished within an hour. At the beginning of October Magdalena Maleeva was seeded fifteenth after she climbed no fewer than eight places up the WAT. The success came in the wake of Magi's sensational performance in Moscow. She won the Kremlin cup after defeating second seed Lindsay Davenport in thriller match.
