EU has strongly criticized British PM David Cameron over his comments on curbing Romanian and Bulgarian immigration.

Britain is “hysterical” about immigration and risks being seen as the “nasty country” of Europe because of plans to curb the entry of Romanians and Bulgarians next year, EU Employment Commissioner Laszlo Andor has said.

Andor has accused Cameron of not telling the “full truth” over immigration and that his comments were an “unfortunate over reaction.”

The comment came after Cameron controversially said Romanians and Bulgarians coming to Britain would face new rules limiting their ability to claim benefits.

Under the British PM’s proposals, there would be a ban on new arrivals claiming housing benefit and a three-month wait before they could claim jobseeker's allowance.

Controversial claims have been made by a number of British tabloids and politicians that the UK should brace for a massive"influx" of Bulgarian and Romanian migrants after the end of 2013. It has been claimed that lifting the restriction would "put pressure" on housing, infrastructure, schools, and heath care.
