The head of the Bulgarian State Agency for Refugees, Nikola Kazakov, has been relieved of his duties.
In a briefing after today’s Ministerial Council session, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Tsvetlin Yovchev revealed the motives behind Kazakov’s dismissal.
“The procedures for reviewing and issuing refugee statuses are unsatisfactory, which contributes to the overloading of accommodation facilities. Also, the organizational work at the centers for temporary reception has been conducted poorly”, explained Yovchev, cited by Focus agency.
A third motive behind the decision was the State Agency’s weak communication and cooperation with European organizations, which could help with the refugee crisis in Bulgaria.
The new head of the agency will be Nikolay Chirpanliev, who has experience working in the Ministry of Defense.
