Bulgarian nationalist leader, Volen Siderov, declared before lawmakers Wednesday that without his extremist Ataka party the entire State would collapse.
Siderov spoke in plenary hall during debates on the now-flopped opposition no-confidence motion against the government.
"Ataka was absent for just 4 days and the State was on the brink of collapse. I thought you were more serious as politicians, but no. So the conclusion is – take care of us, water us as a flower in a pot, because without us the Parliament and the State will be in ruins," said he.
Siderov explained his MPs and himself missed parliamentary sittings last week in order to travel to Brussels to protect their image and the image of Bulgaria because a member of the European People's Party, EPP, has been "disrespectful" to "Ataka."
He blasted the centrist, formerly-ruling, opposition Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party, GERB for being part of EPP.
"Why are you with EPP, why do you have membership in a formation full of cowards and quitters? They closed their doors for us. When Joseph Daul visited Bulgaria in 2009, GERB leader Boyko Borisov personally introduced me to him as an important politician, but now you are telling them to close their doors for me," stated the nationalist chief.
Last week, Ataka's lawmakers embarked on a series of antics at the European Parliament in Brussels, instead of participating in a no-confidence vote against cabinet at home. The official reason for the Brussels visit was to demand an excuse from German EPP MEP Doris Pack, who called Ataka xenophobic and anti-European.
The MPs were unable to enter the European Parliament as no MEP would agree to meet with them.
Siderov did not utter a word about reports his group stirred a huge scandal in an upscale Brussels's restaurant, but proceeded to mock Borisov, saying the latter could not work effectively in the extreme nationalist's absence. He advised GERB's leader and former Prime Minister to grow up as politician.
"I understand you; I understand that without me you are lost and have no role model in politics. My absence confuses you, but it is time for you to grow up, as a politician I mean, not physiologically... I am telling you this as a colleague. See, we have more meetings at the end of October, but we will be here in spirit, don't despair," "Ataka" leader stressed from parliamentary tribune.
Borisov took the floor to reiterate it has became obvious once again that the government was counting only on the nationalists to stay in power.
"You are right, Mr. Siderov in saying this Parliament and this Cabinet would not exist without you," said he.
Borisov further reminded that albeit in opposition, GERB received the most votes in the last general election in May 2013.
GERB leader Boyko Borissov reacted to the fall of the Zhelyazkov government during a live broadcast on his official Facebook page, following the mass protests across the country.
The government is making a second clumsy attempt to introduce the state budget.
