The Syrian government has accepted Russia's proposal for international control over its chemical weapons to avert an airstrike from the US, report world agencies.

Tuesday Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs Walid Muallem has confirmed that talks with Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov have led to a positive outcome

"Yesterday evening we reached agreement," stated Muallem Tuesday.

"Syria agreed to Russia's proposal, because it will remove the grounds for a US agression," added he.

On his part, Lavrov informed Tuesday that ongoing talks between the two countries will flesh out the details of the plan.

At the same time, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius declared that France will draft a UN Security Council resoultion to implement the Russian plan.
