Border control in Bulgaria will be tightened, but borders will not be closed for Syrian and other refugees, according to Bulgarian Foreign Minister, Kristian Vigenin.

Speaking Saturday for the public radio, the Minister urged for a sensible approach and responsibility to spare Syrian people additional suffering.

"When immigrants ask for refuge, we simply have the humane responsibility of taking care of these people. We might request soon assistance from the European Union in dealing with a possible refugee wave," said he.

Vigenin is in Vilnius for a summit of EU Foreign Ministers on Syria. He informed that during the Friday debate Germany, Great Britain and France have stated that they had clear indications the chemical weapons attack in a Damascus suburb on August 21 had been carried out by forces of the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Bulgaria's top diplomat further reported that participants have reached consensus to wait for the conclusion of the tests of samples taken from the site by UN inspectors and to use them to analyze once again possible reaction. He added the UN Security Council should make at least one new attempt to debate the Syrian conflict after the tests' results become known.

Regarding the Saturday meeting with US Secretary of State, John Kerry, Vigenin informed the summit will discuss with him how the US envisions a possible military strike and what are its plans for the aftermath.

"Planning a military operation is easier than planning and even imagining what will happen after it. On one hand side, such extreme decision would be grounded on showing the use of poison gas is unacceptable and should not be allowed again. However, we have no guarantee that military intervention will stop such use forever. We discussed yesterday that the perpetrators must be punished. The evidence they are from the government is mounting, but is too early to say it conclusively," stated the Minister.
