Bulgaria: Refugees in Bulgaria: Urgent Accord, Action Needed

Bulgaria’s embattled rulers seem to have finally got down to work – Socialists are revising their political program, new heads have been appointed at an endless series of state agencies.

During their summer vacation however Bulgaria's rulers turned a blind eye to another grave issue – the crisis in Syria.

The world today is a tale of one region – the Middle East.

Bulgaria is a small country and we should conform to the agenda of our international partners in reaching a joint position.

At the same time, Bulgaria bears a heavy responsibility – it is the main entrance to Europe from the Middle East.

Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister said that the country has not yet been asked to provide military cooperation. On the other hand additional funds for refugees have been allotted and we are waiting to see how events will develop.

Border police authorities and Interior Ministry officials claim Bulgaria is well prepared to deal with a potential influx of refugees.

But aren’t top officials - the president, the prime minister and the ministers - too slow in coming up with Bulgaria’s official position regarding the issue?
