Bulgaria is counting on agreement within the UN Security Council before any steps are taken with respect to Syria, stated Bulgarian Foreign Affairs Minister Kristian Vigenin.

Vigenin spoke Friday after a 3-hour sitting of the Security Council at Bulgaria's cabinet on ongoing events around Syria, which has been threatened with a military intervention by the US.

"The Bulgarian government denounces the use of weapons of mass destruction. We think that such an act cannot be left without consequences," stated the Bulgarian diplomat.

At the same time, Vigenin has not put the blame of the supposed chemical weapons attack last week to any of the parties in Syria's civil war.

The regime in Washington have on their part alleged that chemical weapons were used by the forces of embattled Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad.

"We hope that the international community, including with our participation, will do what is necessary to prevent a second use of weapons of mass destruction," said Vigenin Friday.

But he reiterated the posistion of the Bulgarian cabinet that the country will not support any actions not sanctioned by the UN.

"We are awaiting the results of the UN's investigative team in Syria, which conclude their work Saturday," added the Bulgarian top diplomat.
