Syrian Kurds on Mass Exodus to Iraq

World | August 19, 2013, Monday // 10:33

More than 10,000 Kurds from Northern Syria have fled to neighboring Iraqi Kurdistan in a marked refugee uspurge in the past days.

The precise cause for the wave is not clear yet, report world agencies.

The refugees are coming predominantly from Hasaka and Qamishli, the two major cities in Syrian Kurdistan still controlled by the government.

Reports in recent months show that Islamists battling Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad have started to engage in heavy fighting with Kurds in Syria's north.
