Bulgaria's State Agency for Child Protection has issued a statement of caution regarding bringing children to ongoing street protests.

The warning comes just a day ahead of a rally planned for Friday, when Parliament is to re-convene on a special mid-recess sitting in order to review a presidential veto on a recent budget revision.

Bulgaria's capital Sofia has been gripped by a string of anti-government protests since June 14, which have however abated in the holiday month of August.

"It is a worrying tendency that during mass events - protests, sporting events, concerts, etc. - often there are provokations and there exists a risk of an escalation of tension and the creation of dangers for all participants, but foremost for children, given thier vulnerable physical and psychic development," stated the Child Protection Agency.

"That is why SACP calls on parents to carefully consider the appropriateness of their kids' participation in protests," adds the agency.

The child protection officials add that they fully respect the rights of children to protest and take part in rallies.

But they stress that children need to be protected from "the negative sides of protests by the joint efforts of all responsible, which includes both parents and government organs."
