Bulgaria Faces Scorching Heat Until Midweek, Followed by Sudden Temperature Drop and Storms
The heat across Bulgaria continues to intensify, with Sunday bringing even higher temperatures than the day before
The Sofia Water utility and the Sofia City Hall are offering free bottled water to residents and visitors over the scorching heat.
All stations are in downtown Sofia.
The Sofia Water stations will be opened between 10 am and 15 pm on July 29, 39, and 31 and are located at the intersections of "Vitosha" boulevard with "Patriarch Evtimiy" boulevard, of "Moskovska" street with "Benkovski" street, on "Alexander Burov" square near the Office of the President, and on "Vasil Levski" boulevard in front of the Sofia University.
The City Hall stations will be opened between 9:30 am and 10:30 pm and are located near the "St. Nedelya" Church in downtown Sofia, and in the park adjacent to the National Palace of Culture.
Code Orange alert for dangerous heat is declared Monday for four Bulgarian regions in northern Bulgaria.
The forecast is issued by the National Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, BAS.
Code orange means intense weather situations with potential damage, injuries and casualties. People are advised to keep track of the weather conditions and avoid any potential risks.
Code Orange for heat is effective for the regions of Vidin, Montana, Vratsa, and Pleven.
Temperatures there are to reach anywhere between 35 and 40 degrees Celsius.
The rest of the country is under Code Yellow with temperatures between 33C – 38C, 32C in Sofia.
Code yellow means potentially dangerous weather, where the forecast is not for unusual meteorological events, but requires people to exercise caution.
