Bulgarian Right Wingers, Liberals Urge Govt to Resign after Crackdown on Protesters

Two relatively small Bulgarian parties, the right-wing Union of Democratic Forces and the liberal National Movement for Stability and Prosperity, have joined calls for the resignation of the country’s embattled government.
In a declaration, UDF has criticized the government over the excessive use of police force.
“We witnessed how the Bulgarian police were ordered to beat citizens who had come to peacefully defend their rights and show their wish to live in a normal democratic country,” the declaration says.
In another declaration, NMSP has said that “the government’s political life is over,” urging it to resign and calling for early elections.
The largest opposition party in Bulgaria, the center-right GERB of former PM Boyko Borisov, insisted earlier on Wednesday that the government step down immediately. Other opposition formations are expected to join the calls for resignation later that day.
