EU’s decision to include the military wing of Hezbollah on its list of terrorist organizations would not hinder the dialogue with all political parties in Lebanon, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin has said.
The decision “means that the EU remains fully committed to the stability of Lebanon,” he said.
Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister pointed out that after six months there would be a review of the effect of the decision, “which is expected to lead to increasing security not only for EU citizens, but also those of Lebanon and the Middle East.”
Vigenin noted in a statement that the decision was made on the basis of the overall activity of the military wing on several occasions throughout the EU, including the bombing at the Burgas airport in Bulgaria last year.
In an address to the Foreign Affairs Council on Monday, Minister Vigenin emphasised that Bulgaria was strongly committed to the investigation into the terrorist attack at. He said that new information had arisen in the course of this investigation.
EU’s Foreign Affairs Council decided on Monday to put the armed wing of Hezbollah on the EU's list of terrorist organizations.
The decision comes one year after the July 18 tragic incident at the Burgas airport, which killed seven, including five Israeli tourists, the Bulgarian bus driver, and the perpetrator of the attack.
