My husband and I bought a lovely house in Bulgaria with a lot of land, small orchard and little vineyard. We installed electricity, plumbing and decked the yard plus various things to make the place habitable. We spent spring and summers there and we had a wonderful time. I even learned Bulgarian and the people were very friendly.
Unfortunately we missed a summer there but we had someone looking after the property and even though they were living nearby our house was broken into several times. We went back to see the damage and we thought we would be able to try again. Once again another breakin and all our furniture was taken. The police found all our stuff but couldn’t get it back as the people that had it said they paid for our things. The police knew who had broken into our house but nothing was done about it.
We contacted our Insurance company who refused to pay out as we didn’t have a 5 lever door lock!! We had bars on the inside of the windows, mortice locks on the inner doors, then mosquito doors followed by steel doors.
All in all to say we are appalled at the Bulgarian people and everything that has happened is an understatement.
We were hoping to move to Bulgaria as we have now both reached 65 but that is impossible now.
I only hope that anybody who chooses to go to Bulgaria will be able to leave their house because if they do leave it for a while who knows what will happen.
Let this message be a lesson to think about. If anybody has any information as to whom I contact please let me know what I can do.
