Dimitar Dabov, head of the parliamentary committee for intelligence oversight, has informed that both candidates for the post of Chair of Bulgaria's State Agency for National Security, DANS, Vladimir Pisanchev and Nedyalko Nedyalkov, have been approved.
Pisanchev is the acting Chair of DANS and Nedyalkov is head of a DANS directorate.
Speaking Tuesday after the hearings of the two nominees, Dabov noted that Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski would pick a favorite candidate by the end of the week and propose him for parliamentary approval.
Under a set of recently adopted amendments to Bulgaria's State Agency for National Security Act, the Chair of DANS is appointed by Parliament on the proposal of the Prime Minister, according to reports of dnevnik.bg.
"The sitting consisted of two parts – in the first one, which was open to the media, Pisanchev and Nedyalkov presented their CVs and concept papers, while in the second one, which took place behind closed doors, the two answered to questions of MPs," Dabov told journalists.
"We adopted a decision which will place a professional at the helm of the system, we did not compile a ranking," he emphasized.
The vacancy at the post of DANS Chair opened after Bulgaria's Parliament revoked the appointment of notorious media mogul Delyan Peevski amid rising public discontent.
Peevski's appointment unleashed a series of mass protests, which did not end with the reversal of the step, causing tens of thousands of citizens to demand the resignation of the socialist-led government over its ties with oligarchs.
