Bulgarians have launched fresh rallies seeking to oust the country’s Socialist-led government, with Wednesday marking the 27th day of massive protests.

A new “themed” protest called “A Working Day Ouside” is to be staged early on Wednesday in front of Parliament in downtown Sofia.

Demonstrators are to bring their laptops, which will enable them to some work while protesting. A local company will assist them with Wi-Fi, desks and chairs.

Earlier, demonstrators once again joined the traditional “coffee-drinking” in front of Parliament, according to reporters.

Some 150-200 protesters have already gathered in front of Parliament, blocking the Tsar Osvoboditel Boulevard.

Reporters say some protesters threw tomatoes at lawmakers who arrived for work.

A larger rally, expected to attract thousands of Sofianites once again, is to be staged at 6:30 pm EET Wednesday starting at the Independence Square in the capital.

The series of anti-government protests in Bulgaria was triggered by the scandalous appointment of controversial media mogul Delyan Peevski as Chair of the State Agency for National Security (DANS).

Although the appointment was revoked, the people went on to demand that the cabinet resign collectively over ties with oligarchs.

Some protesters are also calling for Election Code amendments which will guarantee greater representation of the people in Parliament.

On Monday, the Ambassadors of Germany and France to Bulgaria supported the protesters by issuing a joint statement stressing that the voice of civil society must be heard and warning that the oligarchic model is incompatible with EU membership.
