Romania and Bulgaria must scrap a stance of competition between each other and really start working together, stressed Romanian PM Victor Ponta upon meeting Bulgarian counterpart Plamen Oresharski.

Saturady Ponta is in Bulgarian capital Sofia for the annual Council of the Party of European Socialists.

"Our two countries' best opportunity is to work together, to unite, in order to enter together in Schengen and to boost absorption of EU funds," said the Romanian PM.

"My main message to PM Oresharski was that we must scrap competing and trying to prove that one's own country is better than its neighbor. We both lost from that," added Ponta.

During their meeting, the two PMs discussed a number of key issues of mutual interest, such as their two countries' stalled Schengen accession, and a number of energy projects, including Nabucco West.

They also agreed to hold an extensive inter-governmental meeting in Varna in the fall.

"We must work together, so that our two countries reclaim our reputation and stability after this crisis," stated Ponta.

He further wished PM Oresharski's cabinet succcess in dealing with the difficult situation Bulgaria is currently finding itself.

The Oresharski cabinet was approved by Parliament May 29 on a mandate by the Bulgarian Socialist Party, after snap elections May 12.

Currently, a 10,000-strong rallies have been gathering for a week now in Bulgarian capital Sofia to request the PM's resignation, after a string of questionable appointments.
