The Court of Appeals in Sofia decided to leave in custody Oktay Enimehmedov, the man who attacked the Honorary Chairman of Bulgaria's ethnic Turkish party Ahmet Dogan back in January 2013.

According to the Bulgarian news agency BGNES, after the court session Enimehmedov said that he did not regret his actions at all. He also stated that young and intelligent people were just inconvenient in a country like Bulgaria.

"I want to say that the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, DPS, and the Bulgarian Socialist party, BSP, exert political pressure on the entire state," he pointed.

On January 19, 2013, police in Bulgaria detained 27-year-old Oktay Enimehmedov after he pointed a gun at Dogan, then leader of DPS. At the time, Dogan was delivering a speech at the party conference in the capital Sofia. Enimehmedov was heavily beaten by delegates after the attack.

The young man tried to produce gas pistol shots to the head of Dogan.

Enimehmedov, also an ethnic Turk, stated that he did not actually want to kill Dogan, but to scare him.

It was initially believed that the attacker would only face grave hooliganism charges.

However, experts told the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office that gas pistol shots can cause death if fired at a range closer than one centimeter from the temple, mouth or eyes. Therefore, the attacker was charged with a murder attempt.

According to the court, the defendant has clearly planned his actions.

On June 3, 2013, Enimehmedov requested the Sofia City Court to amend his restraining measure into a lighter one, but his request was not granted by the court.
