Some 100 Bulgarians gathered in front of the Parliament in Sofia on Sunday to protest against the newly formed Socialist-led government in the country.
According to local media, the protest was organized by an NGO, the Citizens’ League for Bulgaria.
Some of the protesters have been heard chanting “We do not want a government of the energy mafia,” which allegedly refers to recent rumors that the Belene nuclear power plant project may be revived by the new government.
The Focus news agency reports that some protesters are holding banners describing the government as a “political Frankenstein” consisting of the left-wing Bulgarian Socialist Party, liberal Movement for Rights and Freedoms and the xenophobic far-right Ataka.
A parallel rally held in the second largest city has gathered some 40 people, according to media reports.
The first protests against the Socialist-led government took place last Sunday, just three days after it took oath of office.
GERB leader Boyko Borissov reacted to the fall of the Zhelyazkov government during a live broadcast on his official Facebook page, following the mass protests across the country.
The government is making a second clumsy attempt to introduce the state budget.
