The adjustment of natural gas prices every 3 months remains in place, but a price change from July 1 is unlikely, the chair of the State Commission on Energy and Water Regulation, Evgenia Haritanova, said.

The chief public supplier of natural gas, Bulgargas, had applied for a price increase.

А postponement of the price period for after July 1 will be also in effect for the electric power due to the needed changes in the energy and green energy legislations.

The changes will help escape the effects of the shrinkage of the regulated market, after the exit of the consumers of medium voltage, the chief of the energy watchdog explained.

Haritanova stated that if the current model remains in place, the weight of purchasing the expensive energy from the renewable energy sources and from the power and heating suppliers on long-term contracts will fall upon the end consumers.

The produced energy from the already annexed green power plants will cost more than BGN 1.2 B for the next program period. "If around BGN 400 M that are owed for this price period, are added, the sum will jump to BGN 1.6 B and I personally cannot explain to the Bulgarian citizens what we do with this," Haritanova said.

In her words, the fees for grid access should be defined by the type of production, should be the same for all power sources of a kind and should fall to a perceptibly lower range.
