GERB MP Daniel Mitov has announced his refusal to accept the offer to serve as acting foreign minister, citing concerns about becoming a pawn in the current power struggle
Bulgaria's new Foreign Minister, Kristian Vigenin, has said that one of the first issues on his agenda would be to study the evidence for the involvement of Hezbollah in the 2012 Burgas bus bombing.
In a Tuesday interview for the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR), Vigenin vowed that he would come up with a clear stance on the matter after he got acquainted with the materials on the case.
In February 2013, then-Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov suggested that the evidence collected by the investigating authorities led to a "reasonable assumption" about the involvement of the Lebanese militant group in the terror attack at the Sarafovo airport in Burgas which killed 7, including 5 Israeli tourists, the Bulgarian bus driver, and an alleged suicide bomber.
The new Foreign Minister also spoke in favor of a "firm and reasonable" stance towards Macedonia, suggesting that sharp turns were to be avoided, and the two countries had to sign a good neighbor agreement.
He recommended an intensification of contacts on all levels, especially political relations, adding that Macedonia's accession to the EU was in Bulgaria's interest.
